Exodus 16 — Sketch
Bread and Birds
Big Idea:
In the Desert of Sin, the Israelites complain because there is no food.
God sends bread in the morning. It’s called Manna and tastes like wafers with honey.
God tells the Israelites to eat as much as they want, but they aren’t allowed to try to store any — except for on the Sabbath, the day of rest.
Some try to store the Manna overnight, but the next morning it is full of maggots.
God also sends quail in the evening for meat.
Every day, Israel has bread to eat in the morning and quail to eat in the evening.
Aaron puts some manna with the tablets of the law.
Jesus in This Chapter:
Just as the Manna came down from heaven to save Israel from hunger, Jesus is the Bread of Life that came down from heaven to save us from sin and death.
Jesus also taught us to pray for our daily bread. It’s a reminder that we must not rely on ourselves but have faith in Jesus to come through for us. This is true for our bread, and this is true for our salvation.
