Exodus 25 — Sketch
Art Project
Big Idea:
God tells Moses to have the Israelites give offerings as their hearts prompt them. These offerings will be used to build a tabernacle — a sanctuary for God’s presence among them.
They are to build the Ark of the Covenant — a gold-covered box, to be carried on poles, with a lid shaped like two cherubim (angels) holding their wings over the top. God’s presence will rest between the cherubim.
They are to build a bread table — a gold-covered table with a gold-molded rim and rings on each corner so it can be carried with poles. It will have pitchers and golden plates holding the Bread of the Presence.
They are to build a lampstand — a gold-covered lamp with six branches and seven lights.
Jesus in This Chapter:
The Ark of the Covenant was where God’s presence rested with Israel. Centuries later, God would dwell with us again because Jesus was Immanuel — “God with us.”
The bread table held the Bread of the Presence. This bread symbolized Jesus being the Bread of Life. Today, we use bread to remember how Jesus’ body was torn like bread to give us life.
The lamp also symbolized Jesus as the Light of the World.
