Exodus 26 — Sketch
A Tent for God
Big Idea:
God tells Israel to make the Tabernacle — the Tent of Meeting where God will dwell with Israel.
God tells them to make it out of blue, purple, and red woven yarn, animal skins, bronze clasps, bronze and silver bases, and gold-covered Acacia wood frames.
The Tabernacle’s interior should be divided by a curtain made of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and decorated with Cherubim. This curtain will separate the Holy Place — with the lamp and table – from the Most Holy Place — where God’s presence will dwell over the Ark of the Covenant.
Jesus in This Chapter:
The Tabernacle was the place where God dwelled with His people. It foreshadows the coming time when He would dwell with His people as a man — Jesus.
The curtain dividing the Tabernacle represented the gap between God’s Holiness and our sinfulness. Jesus eliminated this gap by taking our sin and dying with it, imparting His holiness to us. That is why, when Jesus died, God Himself ripped this curtain open in the Temple.
