Exodus 28 — Sketch
Hip Threads
Big Idea:
God tells Israel to make priestly garments to give Aaron “dignity and honor.”
The clothes will be made of fine linen and red, blue, purple, and gold yarn.
It will include an ephod — a sleeveless garment — with shoulder bars.
There will be a breastplate with 12 precious stones — each with a name of a tribe of Israel. “He will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breast piece of decision as a continuing memorial before the Lord.”
There will be a robe with bells around the bottom. “The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the Lord.”
And it will include a gold plate with “Holy to the Lord” to be worn on the turban. “He will bear the guilt involved in the sacred gifts the Israelites consecrate.”
Jesus in This Chapter:
This chapter makes me think of Romans 13:14 — “Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ.” Aaron’s clothes aren’t what allowed him to enter the Holy Place. It was who the clothes represented — Jesus.
