Exodus 30 — Sketch

Incense and Oil

Big Idea:

  • God tells Israel to build an altar for burning incense. It should be made of Acacia wood and covered in gold with horns on each corner.

  • God tells Moses to take a census of Israel. Each Israelite should make a half-shekel offering to God to atone for their lives.

  • God tells Israel to make a bronze basin for Aaron and his sons to wash in before going into the “temple of meeting.”

  • God tells Moses to make a special blend of oil to anoint the Tent of Meeting, the Ark of the Covenant, the Table, the Lampstand, the altar, and the basin. Then he should anoint Aaron and his sons.

Jesus in This Chapter:

  • The burning incense was a fragrant sacrifice to God — and so was Jesus giving up his life for us.

  • The basin was where the priests would wash before entering the Holy Place. This symbolizes how Jesus cleanses us of sin.
