Exodus 9 — Sketch
Pharaoh Lies Again
Big Idea:
God sends a plague to kill all the Egyptian livestock, but He spares the Hebrew livestock.
Pharaoh doesn’t yield.
Moses goes before Pharaoh and tosses soot in the air causing a plague of boils to break out on the Egyptians.
Pharaoh’s magicians retreat, but Pharaoh still doesn’t yield.
God sends a plague of lightning and hail.
Pharaoh concedes to let the Israelites go.
But the moment the plagues stop, Pharaoh again goes back on his word.
Jesus in This Chapter:
The death of the livestock was an affront to the sometimes cow-headed Egyptian goddess Hathor. The plague of boils was an affront to Imhotep, the Egyptian god of medicine and healing. And the plague of lightning and hail was an affront to Nut, the Egyptian goddess of the sky.
God continues to show the Egyptians that the gods they put their faith in are nothing but frauds. Again, the message is that God is an exclusive God — and there is only one way to Him.
