Genesis 39 — Sketch

It Takes Integrity to Run

Big Idea:

  • Potiphar sees that God is with Joseph, so he puts Joseph in charge of his whole household.

  • Potiphar’s wife sees that Joseph is good looking, so she tries to seduce him.

  • Joseph refuses, saying he won’t take advantage of her husband’s trust and sin against God.

  • She continues to pursue Joseph every day.

  • One day, when the house is empty, she traps Joseph and grabs his cloak.

  • Joseph jumps out of the cloak and literally flees temptation, leaving her alone with his cloak in her hands.

  • Insulted, she gets back at Joseph for rejecting her by lying to her husband that Joseph tried to rape her.

  • Angered, Potiphar throws Joseph into prison.

  • Joseph earns the respect of the prison warden and is put in charge of the other prisoners.

Jesus in This Chapter:

Joseph is innocent yet sent to prison. Jesus was innocent yet sent to the cross.
