Exodus 10 — Sketch
Moses Refuses to Compromise
Big Idea:
God warns that He’s going to continue hardening Pharaoh’s heart and sends Moses to threaten a plague of locusts.
Pharaoh’s advisers beg him to listen to Moses, and Pharaoh tries to bargain by offering to let only the men go.
Moses refuses to compromise, and Pharaoh drives him away.
God sends a plague of locusts against Egypt to eat all the plant life.
Pharaoh begs for the plague to be gone, but once it is, he hardens his heart again.
God sends a plague of utter darkness against Egypt.
Again, Pharaoh tries to bargain by offering to let the people go without their animals.
Again, Moses refuses to compromise, and Pharaoh drives him away.
Jesus in This Chapter:
The plague of locusts eating all the plant life was an affront to Isis the Egyptian goddess of life, fertility, and agriculture. And the plague of darkness was an affront to Egypt’s most popular god, Ra the sun god.
God is sending the same message He’s been sending all along: God is the only God — and He saves His people.
