Leviticus 11 — Sketch
Clean and Unclean Animals
Big Idea:
God tells the Israelites that they may only eat animals that have split hooves and that chew cud.
They may eat only fish that have both fins and scales.
They may eat birds so long as they aren’t one of the exceptions God lists.
They may eat insects that hop on jointed legs.
They must not eat any animals that crawl on the ground.
They must not touch any carcasses of unclean animals.
God tells them, “You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean…”
Jesus in This Chapter:
God gave more than 600 laws to Israel. But by putting our faith in Jesus, we are made innocent of breaking ANY of these laws because Jesus fulfills them all for us.
Note:
Chapters 11-15 of Leviticus outline what is clean and unclean for the Ancient Hebrews. Chapter 11 focuses on food requirements. Chapter 12 focuses on the requirements for childbirth. Chapters 13-14 focus on what is required for skin diseases. And chapter 15 focuses on what is required for bodily discharges.
