Leviticus 6 — Thoughts

Where Are Your Sins Now?

One of the fun things about reading Old Testament Law is that, amid the seemingly boring details of “do this, then do that,” we can find profound symbolism.

God tells Aaron that the ashes on the altar should be removed. If you’ve ever built a fire in a fireplace that was recently used, you can understand why. The ashes get in the way. But God doesn’t want Aaron to just remove these ashes. God tells Aaron to carry the Ashes all the way out of camp. And he has to change his clothes first.

This points us to Jesus’ burial.

When Jesus went to the cross, He took our sins onto Himself. So when Jesus died, our sins died with Him.

Then Joseph of Arimathea wrapped Jesus’ body in linen cloth and buried Him in a tomb. A change of clothes and a removal — just like God’s command to Aaron.

When Jesus rose back to life three days later, He came out of the tomb — but sin did not.

If you are in Christ today, your sin is still in that tomb.
