Genesis 44 — Sketch
I Volunteer as Tribute
Big Idea:
Joseph sends the brothers back to Jacob with food. Again, he hides the money they used to pay for the food in their bags — only this time, he puts his silver cup into Benjamin’s bag.
Joseph sends men after the brothers to catch up to them and accuse them of stealing the cup.
The brothers tell Joseph’s men that whoever has the cup will be killed, but Joseph’s men say that the guilty person will only become Joseph’s slave.
The men find the cup in Benjamin’s sack, and everyone is taken back to Joseph's house in Egypt, where Joseph demands an explanation.
For Jacob’s sake, Judah begs to be kept as a slave in Benjamin’s place
Jesus in This Chapter:
Judah offers himself as a substitute in Benjamin’s place. Jesus offered Himself as a substitute in our place, taking the punishment for our sin.
