Genesis 50 — Sketch

A Nation Begins

Big Idea:

  • Jacob’s body is embalmed in Egypt.

  • Joseph takes Jacob’s body back to Canaan to be buried.

  • Worried that Joseph will seek revenge against them now that Jacob’s gone, Joseph’s brothers lie and tell him that Jacob said not to hurt them.

  • Joseph reassures them that everything is fine.

  • Joseph dies.

Jesus in This Chapter:

Joseph reassures his brothers by saying, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Sometimes people ask why Jesus had to die — this is about the best answer I’ve heard.
