Exodus 37 — Thoughts
Was Jesus in the Tabernacle?
The way Jesus talked about Himself and lived His life almost gives us a tour of the Tabernacle.
As you entered the tent, you would find a lamp stand to your left.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life,” Jesus told us in John 8:12.
To your right you would see a table covered with bread.
“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty,” Jesus tells us in John 6:35.
Before you, in front of the curtain, you would see an incense altar.
“Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God,” Paul points out in Ephesians 5:2
And behind the curtain, in the Holy of Holies, was the Ark of the Covenant where God’s presence rested with Israel on the “Mercy Seat.”
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth,” John tells us about Jesus in John 1:14.
To go into the Tabernacle, the symbol of God’s presence with His people, was to see Jesus’ life foreshadowed. And to be with Jesus was to experience the presence of God.
