Genesis 46 — Thoughts
Are You Coming to the Reunion?
Reunion is a central theme of the Bible. It's what the Gospel is all about.
God created us to have a relationship with Him. This makes us special in all of Creation. We are uniquely loved by God, and our purpose in life can only be fulfilled through a relationship with Him.
But we have destroyed that relationship. Our sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2), and apart from the God of life, there is nothing left for us but spiritual death (Romans 6:23).
But God's love for us was so great, He took on that death for us on our behalf. He entered creation as Jesus and died in our place on the cross. Because of His sacrifice, there is no longer anything to stand between us and our God (1 John 1:7). All we have to do is trust in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-9).
And when we do, we are reunited with our loving Creator. More than that, we are adopted as His children (John 1:12). Because of what Jesus did, we can boldly come to Him (Ephesians 3:12) — embracing Him as our Father.
We were once separated from God, but because of his loving sacrifice, we can now be reunited with Him.
We get a glimpse of this in Joseph's reunion with Jacob. Jacob believed his son to be dead, just as we are dead in our sins. But the story ends with him holding Joseph in his arms, just as God holds us like a father.
Through the cross, we can be reunited with our Creator.
